Dr Nicholas Keown is an Integrative Psychologist and applies psychotherapeutic treatments that are integrative in their nature (e.g., Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Schema Therapy, Cognitive behaviour therapy), and are effective for several psychiatric disorders (e.g., Depression, Post-partum depression, Social Anxiety disorders, Generalised Anxiety disorders, Stress & Sleep disorders). He integrates his approach to assessment, treatment, and management of clients with exercise science, psychology and integrative medicine degrees behind him. He is located within a private psychology practice in the Greater Bunbury area of Western Australia.

Nicholas has 20 years of clinical experience and his areas of expertise include post traumatic stress, anxiety, depressive, sleep and circadian rhythm disorders. His research interests are in the fields of insomnia, men’s mental health, and the psychophysiology effects of shiftwork.

Since 2002, Nicholas has presented at State and National conferences and addressed audiences in workplaces in Western Australia (WA). The topics presented include mental health disorders in the workplace and the health and psychological health and wellbeing of mine workers in WA.

Since 2006, Nicholas has been a beyondblue Faciltator of the National Workplace Program (NWP).

The NWP is an awareness, early intervention and prevention program designed specifically for workplace settings. It aims to increase the knowledge and skills of staff and managers to address mental health conditions in the workplace.

Nicholas served in the Royal Australian Navy as an Electrical Technical Sailor between 1980 and 1989, and as a Psychologist Naval Officer between 2012 and 2019.

In summary, Nicholas is an interactive, brief solution-focused, cognitve, behavioural, existentialist and mindfulness-based psychologist. His counselling approach and therapeutic interventions are to provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address mental health challenges and problems with scientifically-based solutions.
